robolink – Joint Modules for robots

Integration of different movement mechanisms in one single part – actuators and control modules are uncoupled from the tools.

Polymer specialist igus® offers robot developers and laboratories a light weight, maintenance and corrosion-free series connection of joints. For humanoid systems or common light construction and handling/automation. The polymer joints can rotate and oscillate freely (wire rope technique, only 4 wires necessary). Due to the carbon fibre / polymer joint arms supplies like pneumatics, hydraulics and all data cables are protected fail-safe to control sensors and sense organs.
No expensive milling, no cutting, no handicrafts, no amateur work anymore!

Moving mass is reduced to the minimum

The actuators (engines, pneumatics and hydraulics) and the control module (DP, PC) neither are coupled to the movement nor to the tools.

All heavy components can be bundled and the polymer frame part can be moved stand-alone.
Due to this the single kinds of movement can be controlled individually.

Inspiration bionics – like muscles, bones and sinews for human beings.

Force transmission is dimensioned for a pure tensile load. Pressure is converted to tensile forces which leads to very light and dedicate designs. The forces are exclusively transmitted via working rope wires (“sinews”). These rope wires made of artificial fibres are high-tensile, have a small expansion, are chemical resistant, lubrication-free and have almost no wear. Compared to steel they are – in addition to wear and friction related advantages – lower priced and more energy-efficient due to their light weight. Underwater use is also possible.

The modular igus® kit for humanoid robots covers:

Links, moulded of tribo-plastics, userdefined configurable and expandable

Link arms in several lengths, styles and dimensions, including space for additional control cables

Wire ropes made of artificial fibres

“Black Box”-connection to drive and control units

Tools like gripers, shovel, hooks, vacuum cups, paddles, legs

With the polymer skeletal parts various humanoid robot configurations are possible: joint arm, movable buckets, “canoes”, quadrupeds and much more
